Gary O’Brien, the owner of My Tax Refund, is seeking an injunction to allow his firm to buy advertising on the platform, on which he had already spent €350,000. The ad ban relates to a change in Google’s policy in 2020, which banned ads from companies offering services that can be obtained directly from the state.

The legal team for O’Brien were in the High Court last week seeking an injunction directing Google to allow My Tax Refund to advertise the services it provides with Google Ads. Barrister Arthur Cunningham, instructed by Peter Boyle and Co Solicitors, told the court that if the injunction was unsuccessful, it was “very unlikely” that the company would be able to trade “beyond the summer”.

Lukasz Salamandra, a self-proclaimed property mogul, was disqualified for 15 years. Salamandra claimed his Athboy company owned millions in real estate assets. In fact, it owned nothing. The convicted fraudster is now prohibited from serving as a company director for 15 years.

Precedent for directorship disqualification is usually capped out at a 10-year ban, which is reserved for only the most egregious cases. Yet Cunningham made the eventually successful plea for a 15-year prohibition due in part to Salamandra’s history.

Judge Quinn agreed with Barrister Cunningham’s case for an extended disqualification, approving the 15-year duration, and later ruled that Salamandra was liable for the applicant’s legal costs.

Peter Boyle and Co Solicitors are delighted to be part of such a historic verdict. Fifteen years is one of the longest disqualifications ever given to a director in the history of the state.

Following queries on behalf of several investors, Mr Justice Michael Quinn heard that places, where Christmas trees were meant to be planted, had no trees, and WFS had no interest in the lands concerned. Mr Kearney’s counsel, instructed by Peter Boyle & Co Solicitors, said the alleged issues bringing rise to the application are “significant” and there is a public interest in appointing an inspector.

Lukasz Salamander claimed his Meath-based international property investment firm would deliver an 8% return. However, it quickly collapsed, and he is now in Spain. However, based on evidence discovered, a court appointed liquidator is seeking to censure the convicted fraudster.

When we at Peter Boyle Solicitors began investigating Lux Estate Capital Group after being contacted by a disgruntled investor, we quickly realised that Lukasz Salamander was not his real name, and in his native Poland, he was known as Lukasz Salamandra.
Under that name, he had been found guilty of fraud and fined by the Polish authorities.
